Shadow mode: watching before trusting

By Rohan Fernandes, Founder · Updated 2026-09-05 · Educational reference, not investment advice

The automation layer's first mode runs the complete pipeline and submits nothing, so you can read what it would have done against the market that actually happened. Covers reading a rejection, the six confidence subscores, the approve and review bands, and the veto-only invariant.

There is an automation layer here and it has three modes, meant to be walked in order. Shadow logs what it would have done and submits nothing. Semi-auto queues every entry and every exit for your approval click. Full-auto submits on its own, and it is available on paper environments only. Real money always requires a human click, in every mode, permanently.

0:30–1:05

In shadow the agent runs its complete pipeline every cycle. It builds its universe, fetches chains, scores candidates, applies every gate you have configured, and writes down what it decided and why. The only thing it does not do is send an order. So after two weeks of shadow you are not reading marketing copy about what an agent might do. You are reading a log of what it would have done in the market that actually happened.

1:05–1:45

The rejections are more informative than the approvals. Every one carries a named reason: earnings falling before expiry, a quote too wide, a short strike sitting inside the recent trading range, a macro event imminent. And every candidate's confidence score opens into its six subscores, weighted the way the engine weights them: liquidity, volatility regime, structure fit, event risk, portfolio fit and tape fit. The tape chip opens further, into the placement and regime detail behind it, and it distinguishes a neutral score that means no data from one that means the gate is switched off.

1:45–2:10

The bands are fixed: seventy-five and above approves, fifty to seventy-four goes to you for review, below fifty rejects. Any blocking flag caps the whole thing to reject regardless of the score. And the invariant that matters most: every gate in this system can only veto or reduce size. No gate can create a trade. There is no path where adding a check causes the agent to do more.

Every evening it sends a digest saying it is alive and what it did, and a missing digest is itself a signal that something upstream is stuck. Stay in shadow until the log stops surprising you. Then move to semi-auto, which is the next video. Options Scanner is operated by Avenix Solutions LLC. It is not a broker-dealer and not an investment adviser, and it never holds customer funds.
